1970 Plymouth Cuda 2-dr Hardtop Coupe powered by a 6.3L 383cui-4v 335hp V8 Chrysler Magnum big block engine matched to a A-833 4-spd floor-shift manual transmission and driven through a 8 3/4″ rear differential with 3.23:1 gearing.
This ’70 Plymouth was manufactured in Chrysler’s Hamtramck, Michigan plant in 1970 as a Cuda 2-dr hardtop coupe. The production broadcast sheet identifies it as painted in Lemon Twist with Black vinyl interior trim, front bucket seats and a Black vinyl roof. It was fitted with a 383cui-4v V8 engine, 3-speed manual transmission paired to a 8 3/4″ rear differential with 3.23:1 gearing.
Cuda’s are some of the hardest cars for us to get in stock. They were quite limited in production back in the day and for the most part didn’t age well. Rust was a huge issue, and not to mention the demographic that owned them. Luckily this one survived without much of the normal rust and any obvious Duke boys antics. The previous owner stated that the car was restored and shortly after bubbles appeared under the vinyl top and on the driver’s door. At that point the top was removed, metal treated and then parked in disgust. It sat for years untouched before being sold.
The body on this one is quite straight & solid with original floors, rails and trunk pan. There are some bubbles on the drivers door corner, some pictured corrosion on a cross member and signs of a repair at the rear window on the passenger side corner. Panel wise it is quite straight with no obvious body damage or signs of significant filler. The ’70 grill was replaced with a rare ’71 unit. The Road Lamps are aftermarket units with a ‘halo’ function that is utilized for the blinkers. The centre LED is used as the Road Lamp and is about 10x brighter than stock.
Inside the interior is quite tidy. The seat upholstery is in good condition, carpet is new, front door panels are nice and the rears are brand new. Not a lot to do in here, though the dash pad is cracked.
The 383 fires up with a roar thanks to a nice aftermarket 3″ exhaust and a big cam. The intake manifold was replaced with a single plane Edelbrock aluminum unit and a matching Edelbrock carburetor. No specs are available on the cam, but it has a nice noticeable lope to the idle. The previous owner stated it had low miles on the rebuild but no receipts were provided.
The A-833 4-speed isn’t the original transmission, as this car came with a 3-speed manual from the factory. The A-833 does shift nicely and the clutch works properly.
Please note: You probably noticed that the wiper motor is out in the pics, as we are currently trying to source a new 2-speed motor and should have it soon.
