1965 Monterey Montclair 4-dr Pillarless Hardtop powered by a 6.4L 390cui V8 Ford FE-series big block engine and driven by a 3-spd ‘Merc-O-Matic’ column-shift automatic transmission.
Through its 2nd stage of production, the Montclair typically served as the mid-range Mercury sedan offering, and it always slotted between the Monterey and Park Lane in the Mercury model lineup. While the true origins of the nameplate are unknown by Ford historians, the consensus is that is derived from Montclair, New Jersey an upper-class community located near its then-new Mahwah assembly facility.
For 1965, Mercury introduced it’s 5th generation with a new body and chassis for its full-size sedans, growing to a 123-inch wheelbase and rear leaf springs gave way to coil springs for all four wheels. The only full-size Mercury not sold as a convertible, the Montclair was offered as a four-door sedan and two-door and four-door hardtops. In a marketing change, the Marauder name was dropped from the non-Breezeway roofline and the four door hardtops adopted a roofline closer to their two-door counterparts.
This certainly is a rare and unusual 4-door hardtop! It is a fantastic driving 85,435 actual mile car that is an older restoration which is in very good condition. It features the awesome 390cui V8 engine, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, AM radio, factory air conditioning, good chrome and stainless, straight good fitting body, and radial white wall tyres.
This is a turn key cruiser for the family and friends, and it makes for a great weekend toy or show entrant!
