1970 Ford Torino GT 2-Door Fastback Coupe powered by a 7.0L 429cui-4V 360hp V8 Ford 385 big block ‘Thunder Jet’ engine and driven by a Ford C6 ‘Cruise-O-Matic’ 3-speed column automatic transmission.
In 1970 Torino had become the primary name for Ford’s intermediate range of vehicles, relegating Fairlane to a sub series of the Torino. The Torino GT came standard with non-functional hood scoop molded into the hood, GT emblems (including the centre of the grille), dual colour-keyed sport mirrors, full width tail lights with a honeycomb effect, black decklid appliques (SportsRoof only) and hub caps with wheel trim rings. Also available as options were a reflective laser stripe, which ran down the middle of the side of the Torino from the front fender to the door, and ‘hideaway’ headlamps. Overall, 1970 was a successful year for Torino. It was a well received car by the automotive press and was selected as the ‘Motor Trend’ Car-of-the-Year for 1970.
This Torino GT is a ‘matching numbers’ two-owner only car showing 135,000 miles and has been garaged all it’s life and is totally rust free. It is in original condition, with one repaint some time ago in original medium ivy green metallic paint, it is very clean, tidy and well maintained. It is not a show car, but a classic original muscle car from the era. The paint looks good but is showing signs of age, with the roof and trunk fading. Recent maintenance items include a new fuel pump, new u-joints, new flow master exhaust, new battery and a radiator recore. Features of this car are it’s 429cui-4V ‘Thunder Jet’ big block engine, hideaway headlights (optioned), power steering, power assisted front disc brakes and ‘Trac Lok’ differential.
This car runs and drives very well, and is a great example of the muscle that was on offer from the Ford stable in the intermediate car category that year. This car is great value, if this was an Aussie 2-door Ford muscle car you would be looking at a price range of $80-$170K.
