1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Fastback powered by a ‘M-Code’ 5.8L 351cui 4V Ford V8 engine and driven by a C6 3-speed floor-shift automatic transmission.
This 1971 Mach 1 Mustang was scheduled for production in September 1970 in Ford’s Metuchen New Jersey plant and was delivered to the Philadelphia DSO, and it still shows it’s highly desirable Grabber Green Metallic finish, although a repaint from a later restoration. The car is sure to turn heads anywhere it goes! The exterior looks good and is best described as a 10′ footer car. The body looks good and lines up quite well. There is some slight bubbling on the lower right front fender and both rear lower quarter panels, as shown in the photo’s. The worst of the exterior is the front urethane bumper which has some light deformities which also can be seen in the photo’s.
The interior is the original factory ‘Mach 1 Luxury’ trim package and it still shows in very good condition. The seats and carpet look good with no rips or tears. The headliner is also in good shape with only one small tear noted. The gauges are all intact and working good. The dash pad does show two cracks and the horn button will need to be replaced, but besides those minor things, the interior is quite nice.
The engine is a ‘M-Code’ 351c 4v V8 that runs and drives great. This Mach 1 is equipped with air conditioning that looks to have been updated and retro-fitted, however it is non-operational and will need a service and re-gas before use. Also, the car is equipped with factory power steering, power assisted front disc brakes and a traction-loc differential which makes driving this car a more pleasurable experience. The automatic transmission shifts good and the drivetrain is quiet while driving. The exhaust has been upgraded using Magnaflow mufflers so there is a nice tone while driving.
The chassis overall is in good shape, however there has been some prior panel replacements to the rear floors, rear trunk drop-offs, and you will find some rust pin-hole’s in the front floors. The rims are 15″ American Racing with BF Goodrich Radial T/A 235/60 tyres on the front and 255/60’s on the rear. The rear tyres do rub slightly over bumps.
Overall this Mach 1 is a great example of the period correct Mustang Mach 1 muscle car of the era.
