With only 1806 built….this is a RARE car!  The BOSS 351 is a wildly iconic vehicle that could possibly be one of the rarest Mustang’s ever made as it was only produced for one year, that being 1971.

Under the bonnet was a powerful 351 cubic inch V8 engine which would have been capable of beating any other Mustang on the road. Perhaps the 427’s and Shelby models would have been good competitors, but this vehicle was still insanely fast. All of that power was sent through a four-speed manual transmission which was standard for this beast. For whatever reason, Ford only made this car for one year, with this engine incredibly rare! It is widely regarded as the quickest 4 seat small block muscle car. Ford rated this engine at 330hp for insurance reasons, but dyno results prove the 351 made over 380hp and over 390 lbs/ft of torque in stock form. Combine that power with a wide ratio 4-speed and 3.91 rear gearing, what you get is a serious performer.

This is a striking car. When delivered from Ford’s factory in Dearborn, Michigan this car was originally Grabber Blue, which was a rare color for the ’71 Boss cars. The previous owner had the car repainted back in the 1980’s. The now Medium Blue Metallic paint shows very well with the silver metallic accents. The car was originally delivered to the San Jose, California DSO area explaining its current lack of rust or corrosion. This is an older paint job and it is showing its age upon close inspection. The driver’s side quarter was replaced and from the exterior there are really not any signs of it, however the lower drop-off area installation wasn’t as clean and this is shown in the photo’s. The floors are nice with one single pan replacement done with a reproduction floor pan. The frame rails look to be in great shape as do the torque boxes. The original trunk pan appears to be completely rust free. Oddly there is some kind of puncture as seen in the photo’s. Overall, this car is in good condition and could easily be driven and enjoyed for years. Restoration would be straight forward on this car given its lack of pervasive rust which is so common in the breed.

Inside, this Boss is equipped with the correct Black decor interior complete with tach & gauges, fold down seat, console and Hurst Competition Plus Shifter. The seats are in good condition with minimal wear, the carpet and door panels likewise are quite nice. The tachometer works properly as do the other gauges including oil pressure, temp & fuel. An aftermarket radio was installed but an original unit is included.

This Boss is a very rare example with its original VIN stamped engine still in place. This one is correct down to its aluminum intake, finned aluminum valve covers, huge harmonic balancer, solid lifter camshaft and dual point distributor. Unfortunately the original problem plagued carburetor was replaced but it now wears a ‘Pony Carburetors’ replacement. The 4-Speed transmission is the correct AV1 unit complete with Hurst shifter and reverse lock-out rod. The engine runs excellent and the transmission shifts like new.

The front suspension was just replaced with correct restoration quality upper & lower control arms and KYB shocks front & rear. The Competition suspension larger springs & sway bars are all still in place. This Mustang handles surprisingly well.

The Magnum 500’s are the correct 15″ wheels and are reported to be the correct & date coded units. The tyres have good tread and the car does drive very nicely.

This is a rare and awesome car, and make no mistakes it is not a show car, but a car that can be driven and enjoyed by any muscle car enthusiast.
