Car Description

1966 Ford Mustang 2-Door Hardtop Coupe powered by a 5.0L 302cui V8 Ford small block engine and driven by a 5-speed floor shift manual transmission.

Here is a great little running / driving project coupe. This Mustang was built in San Jose, California on 16th October 1965 and was delivered new into the Los Angeles, CA DSO and stayed in the dry state of California for many years before finding its way to Washington state. According to it’s trim plate it was originally painted Silver Blue Metallic and fitted out with Blue-on-Blue interior trim. In it’s early years in life it was repainted to the current Dark Blue as you see it now. The body is fairly solid, but some patchwork will be needed, specifically to the inner driver door, driver-side front quarter panel and the cowl. The best part is the floors, frame, trunk area and rear drops which all look good. This would be a great project for a “do-it-yourselfer” who’s looking for something to do in their spare time; and starting with a complete running / driving project is always the best way to go!

The Blue / White two tone interior has cleaned up good and presents itself rather well, with no rips or tears to the seats which have been recovered in ‘Pony’ seat upholstery. The headliner will need to be replaced, but all the headliner bows are included. The dashpad looks great and the dash itself is complete except for the stereo. The gauges all seem to work good, and the glass and chrome are all in good shape.

This Mustang started life as a 4.7L 289ci 2bbl V8 but was later changed out to a later model 5.0L 302cui with a Ford Motorsport version of the Cobra aluminum intake. The C4 automatic transmission was replaced with a Borg Warner 5-speed manual gearbox to make this a more comfortable cruiser down the highway. The engine fires up quickly and runs rather well, the transmission goes into all the gears smoothly and the brakes work good.

The car runs & drives but is not what you would consider to be a daily driver yet without some maintenance and servicing.
