1949 Ford F-1 ‘Ratrod’ pickup truck powered by a 4.6L 283cui V8 GM Chevy small block engine and driven by a 3-speed floor-shift automatic transmission.
The 1st generation of the Ford F-Series is a series of trucks that was produced by Ford in North America from 1948 to 1952. While trailing the Chevrolet Advance Design trucks by a year, the introduction of the F-Series marked the divergence of Ford car and truck design, developing a chassis intended specifically for truck use. Across North America, Ford assembled F-Series trucks at sixteen different facilities during its production. The 1st generation of the F-Series is the sole generation produced entirely with “Flathead” engines (inline-6 and V8) and without an automatic transmission option.
For the 1949 model year the most noticeable change was the deletion of the red pinstripes on the silver painted grille bars; wheels were painted to match body color, rather than the previous black wheels; defroster added as an option; running boards trimmed at the frame for ease of replacement and a passenger taillight became standard as well as reflectors on both sides.
This truck is ready to jump in and go, and it makes for a great Ratrod or shop truck.
This truck has a great body with minimal true rust holes, and the patina on this truck is great and it has one coat of clear to preserve the look. The door handles have been shaved and poppers still need to be installed. It has a super solid and almost completely rust free underside with solid and rust free original frame rails and floor pans. Outer cab corners are solid as well, with only a few minor spots of rust, but very solid. Wipers and horn are currently not working.
This F-1 is very reliable and features a chevy small block V8 engine which starts easily and runs strong. The automatic shifts through all gears smoothly and the truck drives easily down the road with power steering and power assisted front disc brakes on a mustang front clip.
