Car Description
1966 Chevrolet C2 Corvette 427 Stingray 2-Door Sport Coupe powered by a 7.0L 427cui 425hp V8 Chevy L72 big block engine and driven by a GM 4-speed console-shift manual transmission.
Built from 1963 to 1967, this 2nd generation of Corvette is considered by many to be the finest example of the sports car Chevrolet has ever produced. Besides being simply beautiful inside and out, they were the third American car with four-wheel independent suspension (1963), and the first with four-wheel disc brakes (1965), aluminum wheels (1963), hidden headlamps (1963) and a long list of other innovations that secured the Corvette’s reputation as an affordable two-seat sports car that had the chops to run with and even outrun Europe’s best, both on the street and the racetrack.
In 1966 the 427cui models came with a special bubble hood to accomodate the “Big Block” engine and Holley carburetors, which were on some optional engines prior, were now made standard on all engines. Seats were updated to decrease wear and tear and the knock off wheels were still available although the center cap now had a dull finish. Only 9,958 coupes in total were built this year, making them rarer than the convertibles, which saw a production run of some 17,762 units.
This rare model Corvette has just been purchased from it’s previous owner who had owned this beautiful car since 1974! It is a numbers matching 427cui 425hp L72 big block engine, which produces a whopping 465lbs/ft torque at 4000 revs, and it features a factory 4-speed manual transmission with power steering, four wheel disc brakes and factory side pipes. The interior is in excellent condition, finished in black leather upholstery, and the car itself was repainted in its original, and most popular colour, Nassau Blue over 45 years ago and it still looks fantastic!
