1971 Chevrolet Chevelle 454 SS 2-dr Hardtop Sport Coupe powered by a 7.4L 454cui V8 GM Chevy big block engine and driven by a Tremec TKO 5-speed console-shift manual transmission.
This is a 2nd Gen (1968-1972) Chevelle, and for 1971 GM made design changes, although keeping the ’70 body style, the model was treated to new front-end & rear-end styling that included large Power-Beam single-unit headlights, a reworked grille & bumper, and integral park/signal/marker lights. The grille was widened and featured a bright horizontal bar that divided it into two sections. At the centre of this bar on the Super Sport model was a large Chevy “SS” emblem and the grille was painted flat black. A small “Chevelle” nameplate was located in the lower-left corner of the grille and new dual round taillights were integral with the back bumper.
This Chevelle is a Stunner!! Silky smooth Cranberry Red body set down low on Hotchkis suspension is just sexy. The ’70-72 Chevelle’s have always been in a class of their own. For a large part free of the numbers geeks as the 70-71’s carried no clues as to their original SS origins. Unless you have a numbers matching engine or a build sheet, which was not commonly left in Chevelle’s, you have a hot rod you are free to enjoy.
This Chevelle has all the SS options but again, without a numbers matching engine or build sheet, there is no way to authenticate Super Sport. It has the correct SS hood, big block, disc brakes, round gauges and 12-bolt differential. The 454 has been professionally built with ARP hardware, Edelbrock RPM air gap intake manifold, rectangle port cylinder heads, Carb Shop modified holley double pumper carburetor, MSD ignition, Doug’s headers and a reported hydraulic roller camshaft. It has a very noticeable lope to the idle and revs very crisp. There is also lots of chrome here!
Absolutely lovely car ready for the Chevelle enthusiast.
