Car Description
1978 Pontiac Firebird Formula ‘Trans Am’ Tribute 2-door Hardtop Coupe powered by a 7.5L 455cui V8 Pontiac big block engine and driven by a Turbo HydraMatic THM350 3-speed console-shift automatic transmission.
This is a 2nd generation (1970 to 1981) Firebird and the changes for 1978 were only slight, with a switch from a honeycomb to a crosshatch pattern grille being the most obvious from the outside. Beginning in 1978, the Pontiac group introduced a new special edition vehicle, the Firebird Formula LT Sport Edition, which featured a revised 10% raised compression Chevy 305 V8 engine producing 155 hp combined with a floor center console four-speed manual T-10 BW transmission coupled to a limited-slip differential final drive. The limited touring package (LT) also included a cabin roof, door, fender and hood graphics scheme, the Trans-Am sports handling package with HD gas shocks, modular alloy wheels and the SE Trans-Am rear deck spoiler with ‘Formula’ graphics.
This car was originally a 5.7L 350cui 4-barrel car from the factory, but has been converted by it’s previous owner to now run an earlier model 7.5L 455cui Pontiac big block engine. The engine conversion appears very neat, tidy and professionally done. In its current configuration the car has air conditioning, power brakes, power steering, power windows and features ‘Trans Am’ decals & detailing.
This car has been garaged all it’s life, it shows 56,000 miles on the odometer and is ‘rust free’. It is in immaculate condition and a very well kept & maintained ‘Trans Am’ tribute car which has the ‘Bandit’ muscle to impress all comers, and would not be out of place at any weekend ‘show & shine’ event.
