The No-Nonsense Muscle Car – 1970 Plymouth Road Runner
In 1970, when Plymouth pitched its “Rapid Transit System” collection of performance cars, it might as well have been talking just about the Road Runner. A stripped-down, budget-priced street racer for the common man, the Road Runner had proven itself profitable for Plymouth since its 1968 introduction, and the 1970 model made no radical changes. Still standard was a reasonable price of entry, along with the top dog of the 383 four-barrel engines still pushing out 335 horsepower. Still missing was a lot of the chrome and plush carpet found on the higher-priced GTX. It was exactly the sort of matter-of-fact, no-nonsense muscle car any young guy could love.
The 1970 model year brought new front and rear end looks to the basic 1968 body, and it would prove to be another success. Updates included a new grille, cloth & vinyl bench seat, hood, front fenders, quarter panels, single-piston disc brakes and even non-functional scoops in the rear quarters.
This Road Runner is laser straight and rust free. It features a non-matching 440cui Mopar big block with a Holley 4-bbl carburetor. It is finished in beautiful Mopar Sublime Green, with all chrome, glass and interior trim in excellent condition. These 1970’s Road Runners are super rare to find these days, especially in this condition.
