The all-Japanese Nissan Exa Turbo was swift to say the least, and was fully imported from Japan, and had gone on sale in Australia from 1983. This was a somewhat spunky looking two-door coupe based on the Pulsar but equipped with a turbocharged 1.5-litre (E15ET) engine. It was amazingly quick for this era when the Australian market was just recovering from the sad days since the introduction of the ADR27A anti-emissions legislation which came into effect on 1 July 1976. At the end of the 1970’s, any car that could cut the standing 400 metres in less than 18 seconds was fast indeed!!
This EXA Turbo was built in Japan in October 1984 and shipped to Australia where it was delivered to the selling dealer Wight’s Nissan of Traralgon, in country Victoria. It was subsequently sold on the 19th March 1985 to its first and only one-owner lady, who also lived in Traralgon, and where it spent all its life until late 2005.
This EXA has been off the road since late 2005 when it was purchased in Victoria by the current collector/owner who has had it stored in his undercover collection since that time.
A rare car to see for sale in today’s generation, and especially in this condition and with such low kilometres. The body shows in good original condition, with only a few minor dents and bruises here and there. The car still wears in its original factory paint of Blue Mist Metallic which still shows well considering its age. There are a few stone chips in the paint, particularly on the front of the curved bonnet. Overall, the car is very solid with no rust whatsoever in the body or underside, and there is no evidence of any body panels having been replaced. The upholstery and carpet are the factory original, and they still show in very good condition, with only some minor wear showing on the cloth front seats. The engine has been revived after its long slumber, together with the brakes, and the transmission shifts smoothly. Recent mechanical work performed to get the car ‘out-of-the-barn’ includes a new fuel pump, new battery, foot brake pedal repair and the rear brakes overhauled.
Available with the car are the original factory production and model Id Cards, the vehicle Warranty and Owner Identification booklet, together with the servicing records up until its last service in April 2003 at 99,716 kms, and all carried out by the original selling dealer.
If you are looking for a genuine Collectors Barn-Find and rust-free EXA Turbo one-owner car true to its breed & heritage, with original documentation and unmolested; then this is one not to miss!! Obviously coming out of hibernation there will be due diligence required with re-hydrating, lubrication & oils as there always is with this age of car and having sat in storage for years.
