1969 Mercury Marauder 2-door Hardtop Coupe powered by a 7.0L 429cui-2V 360hp V8 Ford 385 big block engine and driven by a Ford C6 ‘Cruise-O-Matic’ 3-speed column automatic transmission.
This 1969 Mercury Marauder is one of the great cars of it’s time. Boasting the potent 429cui V8 engine, there is no shortage of power and torque when you need it. This 2-door, no post ‘Tunnel Roof’ hardtop runs great and is a smooth driving car. The engine starts right up and runs great and the C6 transmission shifts smooth and the brakes stop straight with no pulls. The torque rich 429cui pulls well and the possibilities are endless with this engine when it comes to modifications. Equipped with air conditioning, power steering and power assisted front disc brakes, this car is a breeze to drive.
The body on the Marauder is quite good with only minimal dings and light rust seen mostly on the right rear quarter panel. The paint is aged and worn however, but it does give this car the right amount of ‘patina’. There are some signs of wear, such as 2 cracked taillights and misc blemishes seen throughout, but again nothing out of the ordinary for a 50 year old survivor. Both rear wheel skirts are present with the vehicle, however one will need to be repainted.
The interior is complete, however the front seat has a medium tear on the driver seat bottom and the rear seat back has a large tear. The carpet also shows wear, mostly seen on the driver side but other then these issues, the interior is still in good shape for its age.
The chassis is rather solid with only minor rust seen in the passenger front floor-pan. The trunk pan and remainder of the floorpans look good and extensive pictures are shown of the chassis. The rear axle is a 2.75:1 ratio.
This 2nd-generation Marauder was built in February 1969 in St. Louis, Missouri and was delivered new into the Dallas Texas precinct, and it has spent all of its life in that region of the mid-west states of Texas & Oklahoma.
It was the last of the personal luxury full-size muscle cars built. Ford & Mercury downsized their muscle fleet to pony-sized Mustangs & mid-sized Cougars respectively.
This car is an ideal candidate for restoration.
