1969 Mercury Cougar ‘Eliminator’ 2-dr Hardtop Coupe powered by a 5.8L 351cui-4V Ford Windsor V8 engine and driven by a 3-speed Ford FMX ‘Cruise-O-Matic’ console-shift automatic transmission.
This ’69 Eliminator is a great looking example of the model. Dressed out in a single repaint of its original Competition Yellow, it will stand out in any crowd. This one is also very well optioned with the perfect mix of performance & luxury. Chances are you will never see another like it on the road. In a sea of Mustangs & Monaro’s…be a Cougar!
Hailing originally from Colorado this Cougar has survived quite well. Still wearing what appears to be its original floors, frame rails, quarter panels, fenders & doors this is a very rare example. The repaint that pre-dates the last sale in 2001, did include some lower quarter panel & door corner patches. These were low quality but seem to have held up fine thanks to a very particular owner which garage stored the car for its 19 year tenure with him. The paint presents well but upon close inspection there are chips & blemishes. The chrome, bezels & bright trim are in excellent condition.
Inside the interior is very tidy and appears to be the original Black vinyl with the optioned high-back front bucket seats. The carpet has the correct loop and the seats appear to be the factory comfort weave. The dash is crack free and is still supple. While there is some wear present, you would be very hard pressed to find a nicer original. The interior lights function properly, and the gauges are clear & work nicely.
Under the bonnet the 290hp 351W is the numbers matching unit and appears to have been rebuilt, though no receipt documentation was supplied. It fires up easily and sounds great. There is just a slight lope to the idle indicating a slightly larger camshaft. The original exhaust is still in place right down to the FoMoCo mufflers, that do have some rust. The car does really sound nice with a deep note. The FMX transmission goes into gear quickly and it too appears to be the original.
The originally equipped air conditioning is still in place, however the hoses & dryer will need to be replaced prior to a recharge.
