Car Description

1965 Mercury Comet Caliente 2-dr Convertible powered by an ‘A-code’ 4.7L 289cui-4v V8 Ford Windsor small block engine and driven by a C4 3-spd column-shift automatic transmission through a conventional rear differential with 3.00:1 highway gearing.

          Southern California Rust Free Car
          Factory ‘A-Code’ 289 V8 4bbl
          3-Spd Automatic Transmission
          Power Steering
          Power Convertible Top

This Mercury was built in Ford’s Lorain, Ohio plant on the 5th October 1965 as a Comet Caliente 2-dr Convertible and was painted Lilac Mist Metallic and featured standard Palomino bucket seat vinyl interior. It was produced as an A-code 289cui-4v V8 Windsor small block engined car with a C4 3-spd column-shift automatic transmission and driven through a conventional rear differential with 3.00:1 highway gearing, and was first delivered to the Oakland, California DSO for sale.

This 2nd Generation Comet Caliente saw only 6,035 Convertibles built in 1965, representing only 1.8% of total production. It is relatively rare to see one become available, particularly in this condition. It is showing 70K miles on the odometer.

Being a Southern California car it is rust free and it shows with a very straight body and perfect floors.

The car always starts right up and settles into a smooth idle and runs and drives great and does not overheat. The power convertible top works properly, and all lights and gauges work as they should. The only notable defect is the upholstery, which is showing wear and will need some work, however nothing that a set of seat covers would not help to fix in the meanwhile.

This Comet Caliente is still wearing its original ‘Black & Yellow’ Californian number plates. It is very hard to find a true bone stock survivor car in this condition!

Please note: This car is situated in Southern California, with a clear title and is available for immediate import into Australia. This price is an ALL-INCLUSIVE landed price in Australia incl GST.
