1970 Ford Torino GT Convertible powered by a 7.0L 429cui-4v 360hp V8 Ford 385-series ‘Thunder Jet’ big block engine matched to a C6 3-spd console-shift automatic transmission and driven through a conventional rear differential w/ 3.00:1 gearing.
This ’70 Torino was manufactured in Ford’s Lorain, Ohio plant on the 26th November 1969 as a Torino GT 2-dr Convertible. The trim/body plate identifies it as originally painted in Vermilion (Calypso Coral) with White knit vinyl interior trim with hi-back front bucket seats. It was fitted with an ‘N-code’ 429cui-4v V8 engine, C6 3-speed automatic transmission paired to a conventional rear differential with 3.00:1 gearing and delivered to the Los Angeles, Southern California DSO, where it was sold to the selling dealer Gaudin Motor Co. in Las Vegas, Nevada.
A factory Calypso Coral Torino GT Convertible with a rare Factory N-Code 429 4-bbl big-block and a long list of original factory options like hide-away headlights, hi-back bucket seats with floor-shift console and power windows. This car is Marti Report verified – this exact combination shows as a one-of-one build. It is a turn-key classic for collectors who want muscle-car presence with drop-top cruising.
Highlights
• Engine: Factory N-Code 429 4-barrel (big-block) – a factory-installed heavy-duty 429
• Exterior Color: Calypso Coral (factory) now showing some wear from years of service
• Trim / Options: Hide-away headlights, factory bucket seats with floor-shift console and factory power windows
• Documentation: Marti Report verifying this VIN/option combination and showing this as a 1-of-1 car
Why this car is rare (quick facts)
• The 1970 Torino GT convertible was a low-production model: only about 3,939 GT convertibles were built in 1970 – making GT drop-tops far rarer than GT hardtops and SportsRoof models. That alone places this car into the scarce category for collectors.
• Big-block 429’s in convertibles were very rare. Specialist listings and Marti-documented examples show only a very small number of N-code (big block) convertibles produced; one source that examined similar Torino option combinations notes only ~125 N-code big-block convertibles were built, which helps explain why the Marti Report returns a 1-of-1 result for this exact option combination.
This Torino GT is as rust free as you will find. It’s had plenty of dings & scratches but you would be hard pressed to find rust. Also at some time in its life the interior was changed out to Black, which it too is now showing wear.
So there you have it, a rare Torino GT indeed. It is a turn-key car which runs & drives well, which is very solid, but cosmetically does does have a few whiskey dents & scuffs here and there. This is not a restored or show car, but rather a rare original survivor driving car.
Please note: This Torino is situated in the Pacific North-West of the US, with a clear title and is available for immediate import into Australia. This price is an ALL-INCLUSIVE landed price in Australia incl GST. For serious buyers we can arrange for a video inspection of the car using WhatsApp, and we can also arrange door to door transport once in Australia.
