1970 Ford Torino GT 2-dr Sportsroof Coupe powered by a 5.8L 351cui-4v V8 Ford Cleveland small block engine and driven by a FMX 3-speed column-shift automatic transmission through a Ford 9″ differential.
This car was produced on the 10th November 1969 in Ford’s Lorain, Ohio plant as a Torino GT 2-dr SportsRoof coupe and was fitted with an ‘M-Code’ 351cui-4v V8 4-bbl small block engine. The trim/body plate identifies it as painted in Ford’s #2008-A Red paint and trimmed with Red Blazer stripe cloth/vinyl interior with a front bench seat. It was matched with a FMX Select Shift automatic transmission paired to a 3.00:1 ratio conventional rear differential and delivered to the Seattle, Washington district sales office. The car has spent all it’s fifty two (52) years of life in the Pacific North West of the US.
Talk about a cool optioned Torino! This one was born a true GT with the Shaker hood scoop and a 4-barrel Cleveland engine. Originally it was Ford Red with the corresponding Red interior. It was repainted years ago in Raven Black which shows quite nicely, although we would classify it as a 10 footer. Big 15″ Magnum 500 wheels have been added and really set the car off. Perhaps the biggest & most desirable optional feature was the addition of the hide-away headlights & a Mercury ‘Cyclone’ dashboard, which are very popular & valuable custom options on these cars.
Rust wise this is a very solid Torino. The floors still wear much of their original red oxide paint from new and all the panels appear to be the originals. A quick glance at the trunk floors show some of the nicest originals you will ever see.
The interior appears to be the unrestored original and does show wear in places. Conventional wisdom would have you replace the bench with a factory set of buckets and a new console. We have a replacement original dashboard & gauge cluster available if you prefer to go back to all original.
Under the bonnet the 351-4v Cleveland is a very healthy specimen having been upgraded with a larger camshaft and ‘Mallory’ electronic ignition system. The Cleveland’s were under-rated at 300 horsepower, and simple & mild upgrades brought them closer to 400hp. This one feels strong and sounds amazing. Factory power steering and power assisted front disc brakes make this car a breeze to drive. The brakes have just been inspected and new pads, shoes & wheel cylinders have been replaced.
A standout car with room to tinker!!
