Car Description

1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 2-dr Fastback powered by a 5.8L 351cui-4v V8 Ford Cleveland small block engine and driven by a 4-spd Toploader manual transmission.

               Excellent Running 351-4v Cleveland
               4-bbl Carburetor
               4-Spd Toploader Manual Transmission
               ‘Elite’ Marti Report Verified

When it comes to visual stimulation this Mach 1 hits the right spot. It features Candy Apple Red paint, louvres, spoilers, Magnum 500 wheels on some fat rubber … it’s all there right down to the just low enough but not too low stance. The paint is older with nicks, dings & scratches typical of a well enjoyed 15 year old paint job. Stand back 10 feet though and they all fade away and she is still drop dead gorgeous. The paint shines nicely, the panels align well and the bright work gleams. It’s a beautiful car, but a show car it is not; rather let’s call this one a nice driver.

This Mach 1 was built in Ford’s Dearborn, Michigan plant on the 14th May 1970 and featured Red paint matched to Black knit vinyl upholstery. It was powered by a 5.8L 351cui-4v V8 Cleveland engine, matched with a 3-speed manual transmission and paired to a 3.25:1 conventional rear differential. It was delivered and sold into the Charlotte, North Carolina DSO and has now spent some years in the North West coast of the US.

Inside, the interior looks great. The seat upholstery is fresh, door panels look good, the factory gauges have been replaced with Dakota Digital ‘Retro Tech’ units that closely mimic the originals with an added factory appearing tachometer. These are some of the nicest looking gauges of any car and are truly impressive. There are lots of new fittings to supplement the original ones, which could use some detailing. Again, it looks great, but perfect it isn’t.

Under the bonnet the 351 Cleveland has the ‘4’ corner cylinder heads and has been upgraded with an aluminum intake manifold, larger camshaft, long tube headers and more. It fires up nicely with just a mild but noticeable lope to the idle. The original 3-spd transmission has been replaced by a Toploader 4-speed transmission and is shifted via a Hurst shifter, and the clutch engagement is smooth. Mechanically this is a simple car with manual steering and brakes, so it’s about as organic & connected as you get.

The car wears 15″ Magnum 500 wheels which are fitted with Cooper Cobra Radial G/T tyres, 235/60’s on the front & 255/60’s on the rear. They fit perfectly and look great!

The accompanying ‘Elite’ Marti Report verifies this one as a real Mach 1 and does a nice job of breaking down the rarity of the car to a one-of-five built scenario.

The floors have just been completely replaced, as during the previous restoration the floors had been replaced but the prep work and assembly were done poorly. All the floors, both torque boxes, toe boards and seat risers have now been replaced with quality reproduction units. The frame rails are in great shape; however there is some minor rust, which is easily repairable, in the driver’s side rear quarter.

If you are looking for a Mach 1 and don’t want to break the bank … then take a look here!!
