1970 Ford Mustang 2-dr Mach 1 Fastback powered by a 4.9L 302cui-2V V8 Ford small block engine and driven by a FMX 3-spd console-shift automatic transmission.
This ’70 Mach 1 started life much as you see it, dressed in Grabber Yellow with a Black Interior, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes and Air Conditioning. A gorgeous combo given the Mach 1 trim. Obviously some life has been lived between 1970 and now. The good thing is that life didn’t cause much in the way of the typical rust, and much of the paint is still the original. The driver’s quarter has some damage that has a top coat of paint to help protect the metal, but otherwise it looks like the rest of the paint is original. There is typical bumps, bruises and dents for a car on this vintage.
Inside the interior is worn with a cracked dash pad and some splits in the seats, but luckily you can either drive this one as it is while planning a restoration.
Under the hood the original 351 was replaced with a 302 at some point. The 302 runs well with no smoke or undesirable engine sounds. The transmission goes into gear quickly and shifts properly. This Mach 1 was optioned with Power Front Disc Brakes and Power Steering. The braking system has been serviced with a new master cylinder, wheel cylinders and brake hoses, and the brakes work nicely.
Out back the original 9″ differential and sway bar are still in place. Still wearing its original 14×7 wheels and deep dish hubcaps, and it sees brand new 225/70 Cooper Cobra radial tyres.
Obviously this Mach 1 is a Project! There is rust in the floors for which a one-piece floor pan would be a great answer, although the pans could be replaced separately. The good thing is that the torque boxes & frame rails look super solid, and the trunk pan too is very nice. The only exterior panel needing replacement is the driver’s quarter, other dents & bruises could be metal worked.
If you are looking to get your foot in the door of the ’70 Mach 1 market, then check this one out!!
