This car was built in Ford’s San Jose, California plant on the 22nd February 1965 and was painted Prairie Bronze and featured Palomino vinyl interior. It was produced as a T-code 200cui 6-cyl engine car with a 3-spd manual transmission.
This ’65 Coupe was a California resident for 44 years before coming going to Washington state and being garage stored there from 2009. The proof lies in its original California Black Plates that were smartly stored in the trunk, and as such this car is about as rust free as you will find.
The car presents very well, and it has an older repaint in Wimbledon White. It is showing some age upon inspection but a casual walk around or drive-by it looks good. Inside, the interior is in great condition and could easily pass for a low mile restoration. The trim is tidy and it just feels ‘authentic’.
Under the hood, the 200 cubic inch engine fires up easily and runs pretty well. The 200’s have great low end torque and throttle response, and they are also quite capable of some impressive fuel economy. The automatic transmission goes into gear quickly and shifts properly. The C4 auto’s were a hugely popular option with the 200, and probably the reason that the manual transmission has been swapped out in this car.
The biggest creature comfort is the factory Air Conditioning. This system is fully functioning and it makes this a classic that you can truly enjoy no matter the summer heat or the length of the cruise!
The undercarriage is nothing short of amazing, and it still bears the original coveted red oxide paint. The floors, frame rails, torque boxes and trunk drop offs are all in excellent condition.
