1967 Ford Mustang 2-dr Fastback ‘A-Code’ GTA powered by a 4.7L 289cui-4v 225hp V8 Ford Windsor small block engine and driven by a C4 3-spd console-shift ‘Cruise-O-Matic’ automatic transmission.
The 1967 Mustang brought the first major redesign to the 1st-gen model. Although it was longer and wider, the Mustang kept the same wheelbase of 108 inches. The grille opening was made larger to give the Mustang a meaner look as the rear taillight panel was concave. The fastback now reached all the way to the rear of the trunk, and on all three models you could find simulated panel scoops on the rear quarters. Braking was improved and safer because Ford utilized a dual hydraulic system. The optional front disc brakes were also available with power assist, and a new engine was also offered in 1967 – the ‘S-Code’ 390cui big block. Two other new options were the tilt-away steering wheel & the fold-down rear seat on the fastback model. Ford also spent more money insulating and sound deadening the cars in this year.
The 1967 Mustang GT was a special options package for 1967, and could be added to any of the V8 engine offerings with dual exhaust. The GT Equipment Group that was offered in 1967 consisted of power front disc brakes, grill mounted fog lights, dual exhaust with quad outlets (except the 200 HP 289), GT gas cap, F70 x 14″ tyres, rocker paint stripes and GT or GTA (if an automatic) side emblems. The Mustang GTA was a Mustang GT with automatic transmission.
This is a beautifully restored GTA that was built in Ford’s Metuchen, New Jersey plant on the 28th July 1966 and was painted Dark Moss Green and trimmed with Ivy Gold Luxury upholstery. As you can see, the car has been re-trimmed into Black Luxury upholstery. As can be seen from the Buck Tag (factory build tag) on the car, this was a special customer ordered car (#453) and was allocated to welding bay #34 during its build phase. Special ordered options were air conditioning, GT package (Performance Image Option) and disc brakes (DB).
We are led to believe that the mileage is 53,460 original miles. The body is solid and straight with great fit and finish throughout. This is an incredible Mustang and an absolute joy to drive!
So, here you have it, a ‘real deal’ and rare Fastback GTA. Where do you find them ??
