1966 Ford Mustang 2-Door Hardtop Coupe powered by a 4.7L 289cui V8 Ford Windsor small block engine and driven by a 3-speed floor shift manual transmission.
This ’66 Mustang Coupe is a gorgeous example of the model with a restoration quality repaint done nearly 40 years ago. It has been garage stored since and has seen very few miles, so you would be hard pressed to tell it hadn’t been painted a month ago. The panels line up nice, the paint has a deep lustre and it somehow pulls off Springtime Yellow in a way seldom seen. The interior is nice & tidy, and features Black upholstery, bezels that shine brightly and even the chromed registers & A/C controls sparkle like new. The seats have been recovered, carpet replaced and a new headliner stretched in place. This car is equipped with factory air conditioning, and the system is complete and functioning, though it will need servicing including a fresh recharge which is typical after storage. The fan units work nicely, switches work properly and the the pump cycles on and off correctly.
Under the hood lives a healthy Windsor 289cui V8 that has been upgraded with an aluminum intake manifold, 4 barrel carburetor and long tube headers. Nice additions that really make a big difference power wise without sacrificing driveability. The 3- speed transmission shifts and runs fine. The suspension has been upgraded with some Shelby inspired goodies. At each corner Koni shocks have been installed, larger front sway bar, relocated upper control arms and more make this a truly capable pony. Turn in is quick…steering is tight & responsive…which makes this a fun car to drive.
On the underside, this car is amazing. The floorpans are original, rust free and still wear their original red oxide paint proudly. Back in the 80’s, just prior to the repaint, the car was involved in a single car spin out accident that damaged both rear quarter panels. Rather than short cut things, both quarters were professionally replaced at the seams. The only signs of the repair are seen from the underside with the car on a lift. They are a strengthening panel on the drivers rear frame rail at the shackle and a dimple at the bump stop on the passenger frame rail, both of which are shown in the photo’s.
This ’66 Mustang is a very good clean and honest car which is rust free.
