1966 Ford Fairlane GT Tribute 2-dr hardtop coupe powered by a 6.4L 390cui-4v V8 Ford ‘FE-series‘ big block engine and matched to a 4-speed floor-shift manual transmission and driven through a Ford 9″ rear differential.
This car was produced on the 24th February 1966 in Ford’s Kansas City plant as a Fairlane 500 2-dr hardtop coupe and was fitted with an ‘H-Code’ 390cui V8 2-bbl big block engine. The trim/body plate identifies it as painted in Medium Turquoise Metallic with Aqua interior trim. It was fitted with a C6 automatic transmission paired to a conventional 3.00:1 ratio differential and delivered to the Indianapolis, Indiana sales district. The car has spent the last twenty five (25) years of it’s life in the Pacific North-West states of the US, where it has undergone a transformation to a GT Tribute.
The body is very straight and rock solid with a repaint in Wimbledon White approximately twenty years ago. All chrome and glass are in excellent condition. The undercarriage is very clean and has been re-coated with rust inhibitor; the floor pans & frame rails also in excellent condition. The bonnet is the hard to find style with the 390 inserts that just makes this car pop!
The interior, features all the luxury GT upgrades now in Black, including front XL bucket seats, and is in ‘as new’ condition. The headliner is also in great shape. The gauges and dash display still show like new.
Under the bonnet you will now find a rebuilt 390cui-4v with a 600cfm Holley 4-bbl carburetor, aluminium intake, forged pistons and a mild Comp 20 cam. The drivetrain now features a 4-speed Toploader manual transmission matched to a Ford 9″ 4.11:1 posi differential. The car fires right up and sounds great with a good rumble to the idle. Also included in the upgrade has been front wheel disc brakes, ‘Caltrak’ traction bars, ‘Rancho’ adjustable rear shocks, Hurst comp shifter and Ford 15″ Styled Chrome wheels with new B.F. Goodrich Radial T/A tyres. Just newly completed upgrades include new ‘Borgeson’ power steering, PBR power brake booster and all new brake lines & hoses.
The car drives great and is a real head turner on the road. It would make for a good weekend car show exhibitor!!
