1966 Ford Fairlane 500XL 2-dr hardtop coupe powered by a 4.7L 289cui V8 Ford Windsor small block engine and driven by a T5 5-speed floor-shift manual transmission.
This ’66 Fairlane 500XL was manufactured in Ford’s Atlanta, Georgia plant in December 1966 as a 2-dr hardtop coupe being powered by a C-code 289cui V8 with a 4-spd manual transmission and 3.25:1 rear differential. It featured Red paint with XL package Black vinyl interior, which included front bucket seats, and was designated to the Atlanta, Georgia sales district. The car has spent all it’s life in the drier Southern states of the US.
Under the bonnet you will find a built 289 with Edelbrock 4-bbl carburetor and aluminium intake, and it features ceramic coated exhaust headers. This motor was built for cruising, not as a drag racer, and it does sound great with a good rumble to the idle. The Tremec T5 5-speed manual transmission is a great addition and lends itself to highway cruising. A recent upgrade has been to 4-wheel disc brakes and new Cragar SS 15″ chrome wheels.
The interior, being an XL model, features luxury upgrades including front bucket seats and is in ‘as new’ condition. The body is laser straight and rock solid with beautiful repaint in red base paint and a clear coat to give a wet look finish. All chrome and glass are in excellent condition. The undercarriage is very clean with floor pans & frame rails also in excellent condition.
This car is a restored driving car worthy of weekend show events.
