1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 2-dr Hardtop Sport Coupe powered by a Numbers Matching 6.6L 402cui V8 GM Chevy big block engine matched to a THM-400 3-speed console-shift automatic transmission and driven through a 12-bolt positrac rear differential with 3.31 gears.
This car was produced on the 31st March 1970 in GM’s Oshawa, Ontario, Canada plant as a Chevelle SS396 2-dr hardtop coupe and was fitted with a 402cui 4-bbl 350hp ‘Turbo Jet’ V8 big block engine. The trim/body plate identifies it as painted in Green Mist Metallic with Green interior trim. It was fitted with a THM-400 3-spd automatic transmission paired to a positrac differential w/ 3.31:1 gears and delivered to Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada sales district.
As in 1969, technically, there was no SS 396/SS 454 Chevelle in 1970. The two SS equipment packages offered in 1970 were still options. For the 1970 model year Chevrolet added a second SS option, RPO Z15 for the SS454. Both the Z15 (SS454) and Z25 (SS396) still remained as an option only on any V8 Malibu 2-dr sport coupe. As you can see from the GM of Canada documentation, this car has the Z25 option package, amongst other inclusions.
The car has spent the last eighteen (18) years in Grant’s Pass, Oregon, USA, where it has now undergone a recent thorough body & frame off restoration. This car is in immaculate condition and is even better than seen in the photo’s. There is not many opportunities to purchase a genuine SS396 with this option list, in this condition and with numbers matching!
