1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu 2-dr Sport Coupe powered by a 5.7L 350cui V8 Chevy small block engine and driven by a 700R4 3-spd console-shift overdrive automatic transmission.
This ’66 Chevelle fits in a fun spot. It has some nice parts that help give that much appreciated ‘Boost’ to a project. Just enough camshaft to give it a lope but not so much you are scrambling to keep it running reliably. Nice exhaust gives it a great note while not being ‘Too Loud’. Finally, it has an overdrive transmission that really is going to let you get out on the highway and cruise comfortably to destinations far & wide. Oh, and don’t forget one of the most popular body styles of the era.
Obviously this one isn’t winning any beauty contests in its current form. The original Lemonwood Yellow paint is old, and there are touch up & rust spots to address. This one needs the normal work for the breed including lower quarter and front fender repairs. The window channels have some sealer on them so there will be something to address there too, but not as extensive as most resto efforts. The floors look very good, take a look at the undercarriage pics. The trunk pan has some pin-holing that could be spot repaired but with a bit more effort the whole pan would be a better long term solution.
Inside the interior is the desirable bucket seat/center console arrangement. The panels appear to be original GM upholstery on the seats that is showing some wear. The floorshift console does need the indicator plate. The carpet was recently replaced and looks great.
Under the bonnet lives a CKB coded L48 350 V8 that has been upgraded with an aluminum intake manifold, Holley Double Pumper Carburetor and a nice aftermarket cam. The engine fires up very easily and sounds really nice. The transmission is a 700R4 Overdrive Automatic. It goes into gear quickly and shifts nicely. A new driveshaft was installed for the conversion. The overdrive makes freeway hauling super easy too.
This Chevelle Malibu is a great car to project on whilst still enjoying driving. A lot of the hard work is already done and with some minor work could really be taken to the next level and made into a daily driver or blown apart for either a restoration or full pro-touring build.
