Car Description

1971 Chevrolet Chevelle 454 SS Tribute 2-dr Hardtop Sport Coupe powered by a 7.4L 454cui V8 GM Chevy big block engine and driven by a THM400 3-speed console-shift automatic transmission.

               454 Chevy Big Block
               Turbo 400 3-Spd Auto
               Power Assisted Front Disc Brakes
               Power Steering
               Bucket Seats & Centre Console

This is a 2nd Gen (1968-1972) Chevelle, and for 1971 GM made design changes, although keeping the ’70 body style, the model was treated to new front-end & rear-end styling that included large Power-Beam single-unit headlights, a reworked grille & bumper, and integral park/signal/marker lights. The grille was widened and featured a bright horizontal bar that divided it into two sections. At the centre of this bar on the Super Sport model was a large Chevy “SS” emblem and the grille was painted flat black. A small “Chevelle” nameplate was located in the lower-left corner of the grille and new dual round taillights were integral with the back bumper.

For 1971, the SS option could be ordered with any optional V8 and became more of a dress-up option than a performance option. The SS option was reduced to one RPO code, RPO Z15, and was only available for the Chevelle Malibu. This RPO code required any optional engine and transmission available in the Chevelle lineup.

This ’71 Chevelle was manufactured in GM’s Arlington, Texas plant as a Malibu V8 car. The original drivetrain has since been replaced with a freshly built 454cui V8 engine & Turbo 400 transmission. The car has been painted and badged as an SS Tribute in Tuxedo Black with White centre stripes, and is finished very nicely.

This is a rust free Southern US car still wearing it’s original underside floors, and now features bucket seats, a centre console and SS round gauges pod dash RPO option.

Overall this is a beautiful SS Tribute car sporting all the features of the model.
