1972 Chevrolet Chevelle 2-dr Sport Hardtop Coupe powered by a 5.7L 383cui Stroker V8 GM Chevy small block engine and driven by a 5-speed floor-shift manual transmission.
The ’70-72 Chevelle’s have some of the sexiest curves and muscle, and this ’72 is one beautiful curvy beast! Not an SS, but the classic lines combined with it’s modern upgrades and muscle make it a Super Sport of it’s own variety! This car sits in such a great place for the classic car lover. The paint is fresh and glistens incredibly, and the 383 combined with the 5-spd make it a very spirited driver! We might classify this build as more of a higher end driver quality and it would fit nicely in a car show with many impressed onlookers!
This Chevelle was built in GM’s Van Nuys, Los Angeles, California plant in the last week of February 1972 as a Malibu 2-dr Sport Coupe and featured Mohave Gold paint matched to standard Tan vinyl upholstery. It was originally powered by a 5.7L ‘H-code’ 350cui-2v V8 small block engine, matched with a 4-speed manual transmission and paired to a 2.75:1 conventional rear differential. It was delivered to Pellini Chevrolet Co. in Sebastopol, Northern California and subsequently sold into the same town. The car having been originally from California, has of recent spent some time in the sunny and dry Eastern side of Washington state. The car still bears the original California blue license plates, build sheet, owners manuals and Protect-O-Plate.
This Chevelle having left the GM plant painted Mohave Gold, has recently been repainted in Blue, with the paint and body showing very nicely. You can always find imperfections in most paint jobs, but any are minor, and this is definitely one of the nicer driver quality paint jobs you will see. The panels all line up very nicely too, and the chrome & trim are all in great condition shining brightly; the chrome includes new front and rear bumpers and door handles. This Chevelle’s lines are complimented by its muscular stance on a set of 17″ American Racing ‘Torque Thrust’ alloy wheels, and with CPP tubular F & R control arms and sway bars providing the suspension handling upgrade.
From initial startup and engagement of the clutch, this car just begs to be driven! The motor is a freshly built 383 Stroker with all the bright dressing’s and must have’s, including Holley 4-barrel, aluminum intake, aluminum heads, ceramic coated headers, aluminum radiator, electric fan, etc. It is quite healthy with an incredibly crisp sound emitted through the new 2 1/2″ dual exhaust. Paired to a Borg Warner 5- spd transmission and Kiesler driveline, it all just feels right as power is pushed to a fresh 9″ Currie Nodular differential with posi. This car will break the tyres loose with no effort at all, and what would all that power be without the ability to stop! On all 4 corners you’ll find power assisted disc brakes, and the Overdrive gear sure is a nice upgrade on a classic car for those longer adventures on the open road and freeway.
Step inside and things are clean and neat. The 5-speed shifter cue ball just begs the driver to grab hold! Unsure of the age, the interior is an older refirb but still in great shape, with a new headliner just installed. The front and rear seats are solid with only one minor hole in the drivers seat. Carpet is good without signs of wear. The dash and door panels are without cracks and everything is bright with no fading. All lighting works and the aftermarket radio plays through speakers mounted in the rear.
If you’ve been thinking about a Chevelle, then here’s your opportunity for a ton of fun in a beautiful package.
