1971 Chevrolet Camaro RS 2-door Hardtop Sport Coupe powered by a 5.7L 350cui V8 GM Chev small block engine and driven by a Turbo Hydra-Matic TH350 3-spd floor-shift automatic transmission.
In 1971 the Camaro was available in three (3) models – RS, SS & Z28 versions. While essentially a carry-over from the previous year, the 1971 Camaro had several notable changes including the seats and emblems. Also, in an effort to comply with federal regulations requiring leaded fuel to be phased out, General Motors lowered compression ratios of all engines to a maximum of 9.0:1. The 1971 model featured high-backed seats and a 10-bolt 8.5″ differential.
This 2nd-gen split-bumper Camaro has been a California car for all of its life and shows only very little surface rust, and over the last two (2) years has undergone extensive mechanical work including engine & transmission rebuilds and electrical rewiring. It has been driven only approx 7,000 kms since the completion of work. The list of new replacement parts is extensive – heads, water pump, oil pump, power steering pump, fuel pump, fuel filter, battery, plugs, starter, belts, hoses, power brake booster, front disc rotors & pads and the rear drum brakes rebuilt.
This Camaro RS is an everyday driver currently, it runs very good, with no issues to speak of. It is a solid rust free car showing normal scratches, nicks, minor dents and some surface rust. Most of the work has been done here, and minor tinkering and a repaint will have this Camaro in cruising mode and ready for weekend show duties.
