1964 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-dr Sedan powered by a 6.7L 409cui V8 GM Chev big block engine and matched to a 4-speed floor-shift manual transmission.
Before American cars had officially “gone muscle” with the Pontiac GTO, the 1961 409cui V8 big block from Chevy captured the formula nicely; what they did was upgrade a regular passenger car with the biggest engine the company could make producing as much power as it could muster. When you thought that Chevy had done it all, go a step farther and sell race motors to the public.
The 409 was directed largely to both drag and stock-car racers and by the engine’s second production year, 1962, it had drawn serious attention by cleaning up the NHRA’s Super Stock class. The top-trim versions of the street-car 409 churned out an astonishing 425 horsepower. The 409 remained on the Chevy options sheet through to 1965, after which it was replaced by the next-generation 396 big block.
What a Sleeper this 409 is!! It boasts a dynamite sounding aluminum head 6.7L 409cui V8 engine which has been mildly built with a single 4-bbl carburetor and just the right amount of cam to make the side exit exhaust give that oh so throaty sound of yesteryear. Other features include a 4-speed manual transmission, radial red-line tyres on steel wheels w/ dog dish caps; nice chrome and stainless; stock bench seat upholstery which is in very nice condition and finished in the correct vinyl/cloth material and medium blue colour; power steering; manual front disc brakes w/ line locks and the exterior is painted in classy Daytona Blue.
This car has a great look, sound and feel! It is lots of fun to drive as you go through the gears!!
