Car Description

1957 Chevrolet Bel Air 2-dr Post Hardtop powered by a 4.6L 283cui V8 GM Chevrolet ‘Turbo-Fire’ small block engine and driven by a GM PowerGlide 2-speed column-shift automatic transmission.

               Beautiful ‘Sierra Gold’ Paint
               Excellent Running 283cui V8 Engine
               2-speed PowerGlide Automatic
               Factory Power Steering
               Factory Power Assisted Brakes

For the ’57 model year Chevrolet engineers decided on a number of changes which included a new dashboard, sealed cowl, and the relocation of air ducts to the headlight pods, which resulted in the distinctive chrome headlight that helped make the 1957 Chevrolet a classic. Fourteen-inch wheels replaced the fifteen-inch wheels from previous years to give the car a lower stance, and a wide grille was used to give the car a wider look from the front. The now famous 1957 Chevrolet tailfins were designed to duplicate the wide look in the rear. Bel Air models, though maintaining the same chassis, powertrains, and body, were given upscale gold trim: the mesh grille insert and front fender chevrons, as well as the “Chevrolet” script on the hood and trunk, were all rendered in anodized gold. The 1957 Chevrolet’s did not have an oil pressure gauge or a voltmeter. The base engine was an inline 6-cylinder called the Blue Flame Six.

From a numbers standpoint, the 1957 Chevrolet wasn’t as popular as General Motors had hoped. Despite its popularity, rival Ford outsold Chevrolet for the 1957 model year for the first time since 1935. The main cause of the sales shift to Ford was that the 1957 Chevrolet had tubeless tyres, the first car to have them. This scared away sales to Ford as many people did not initially trust the new tubeless design. However, as time has rolled by, the 1957 Ford is not nearly as prized by collectors today as the 1957 Chevrolet. The ideal size of the 1957, combined with its relatively light weight compared to newer full-sized cars, made it a favorite among drag racers and hot rodders. The engine bay was big enough to fit GM’s big block engines which were first introduced in 1958.

This is a beautiful Bel Air which was built in GM’s Janesville, Wisconsin plant in 1957 as a V8 engine car. This iconic car features an excellent running 283cui V8 driven by the ever reliable GM 2-speed PowerGlide automatic transmission. It has seen a repaint in its original Chevy two tone colour of Sierra Gold & Adobe Beige. It has been beautifully restored both inside and out with the interior now showing matching new cloth/vinyl in the original colours of Black, Copper & Beige. This is not a fresh restoration, but it does present very nicely. On the underside the frame rails, floor pans and trunk are all in good shape and very solid. The front inner rockers had seen some rust issues, which has now been addressed and professionally restored. The only rust repair left to be addressed at a later stage is in the rear wheel wells and rear spare tyre well seam.

So, overall a nice driver condition car with a little work left to do; but priced accordingly to complete the full restoration and not break the bank for a tri-five car.

If you are looking for a classic car in very good condition, then it would be hard to go past this beauty. They don’t get any more iconic than a ’57 Chevy Bel Air 2-door V8!!
