Car Description

1968 Mercury Cyclone GT 500 Fastback Coupe powered by a 4.9L 302cui V8 Ford Windsor small block engine and driven by a Ford ‘Merc-O-Matic’ C4 3-speed floor shift automatic transmission.

1968 to 1969 saw the 3rd generation of the Mercury GT, and the Cyclone received Mercury’s biggest facelift in 1968, switching from 1967’s boxy, Fairlane-derived coupe body to the super-streamlined Torino-based fastback.

This is a  very rare car, a 1968 Cyclone GT 500 Fastback in very good original condition, and it is a ‘numbers matching’ car. It has the stock original drivetrain, 302cui Ford Windsor engine, 2-barrel carburetor, Ford ‘Merc-O-Matic’ C4 3-speed floor shift automatic transmission and Trac-Lock rear end w/ 3:00 ratio. This car was built at Lorain, Ohio in April 1968 for DSO order and delivery to Atlanta, GA.  The car has retained it’s factory original Dark Green Metallic paint colour with gold striping, and was ordered with the front disc brake upgrade package. This is a ‘rust-free’ car, with the floor pans, rear quarters and trunk, all clean. It shows good chrome, glass and dashpad, and the original upholstery is still in great shape with no rips or tears. It shows a minor ding & paint damage on the front driver’s side guard, the rest however is only normal scratches, scuffs and patina from 50 years of use.

Some of the recent work done includes – fuel tank has been pulled out and cleaned w/ sender unit replaced, new brake shoes, cylinders, calipers & rotors installed w/ new front hydraulic hoses, new heater core and the power steering valve rebuilt.

This car runs strong, is solid & straight and shows just over 102,000 miles, and is a great period correct car for the purist.
