Car Description

1970 Plymouth Cuda 2-Dr Hardtop Sport Coupe powered by a 7.2L 440cui V8 Chrysler RB-series big block engine and driven by a TorqueFlite A727 3-spd console-shift automatic transmission.

               Real Deal BS23N Coded Cuda
               Rebuilt 375hp 440 Magnum
               A727 3-Spd Automatic
               Power Steering
               Power Front Disc Brakes

The Plymouth Barracuda was a two-door pony car that was manufactured by Plymouth from 1964 to 1974. This third generation, offered from 1970 to 1974, was based on the Chrysler E-body, exclusive to it and the slightly larger Dodge Challenger. A completely new design, the two-door Barracuda was available in hardtop and convertible body styles. The redesign for the 1970 Barracuda removed all its previous commonality with the Valiant. The all-new model, was built on a shorter, wider version of Chrysler’s existing B platform, called the E-body. Also sharing this platform was the newly launched Dodge Challenger; however no exterior sheet metal interchanged between the two cars, and the Challenger, had a wheelbase that was 2″ (51 mm) and a body 5″ (130 mm) longer than the Barracuda. Three versions were offered for 1970 with the Sport model being called the ‘Cuda’.

There are some cars that remain elusive and just plain hard to get, and a real deal non-project Cuda is just such a beast. This is a fender tag & VIN verified true Cuda.

The paint shines beautifully, even though the paint is reportedly over 20 years old. At first glance it appears black, but get this one in the light and you can see it is a dark green metallic. The panel alignment is nice, and this is a beautiful specimen. The body is a truly rare example and appears to be wearing all of its original sheet metal, and there are no signs of panel repair or replacement either. There are only a couple of minor rust bubbles in the passenger side rear quarter down behind the rear tyre, which are visible on close inspection.

Inside the interior is quite nice. The door panels that are so often sun faded & deteriorated, but these look great. Seat upholstery is clean and even the dash is in good condition. The carpet shows some wear but this interior could easily be used as is. The radio was removed at some point but we find the engine provides mechanical music sweeter than any known radio station.

Originally born as a 383 it was upgraded to a 1970 440 Magnum complete with HP exhaust manifolds. A stock ’70 440 Magnum was rated at 375 Horsepower. The intake, ignition and camshaft were all upgraded so this Cuda should be churning out a conservative 400 Horsepower. This is a mild build with just a little lope to the idle and an easy to live with burble to the idle. The A727 shifts well and is a great compliment to the 3.23 Sure Grip 8 3/4″ rear end.

This was a well optioned Cuda with Power Steering and Power Front Disc Brakes, so there is no wrestling this car, its an easy driver.

The tyres & wheels are brand new 15″ x 7″ Magnum 500’s with 235/60 Cooper Cobras in front & matching 255/60’s out back.
