Car Description

1966 Mercury Parklane 4-dr hardtop sedan powered by a 6.7L 410cui V8 Ford ‘FE-series’ big block engine and matched to a Ford C6 3-speed column-shift automatic transmission.

               6.7L 410cui 330hp V8 Big Block
               Ford C6 3-spd Automatic
               4-bbl Carburetor
               Power Steering
               Retractable Rear Window

History :- The Mercury Parklane was introduced for the 1958 model year as a premium model line for the Lincoln/Mercury division. In design, it was conceptualized as a ‘Super Mercury’ that would compete with the Buick model from General Motors and Chrysler’s 300D. The model was based on the Ford Fairlane platform and was available in 2-dr and 4-dr hardtops versions and a convertible coupe. The Park Lane was offered as the flagship Mercury model line with a similar approach to luxury shared with the updated four passenger Ford Thunderbird of the era. The Parklane model was a body on frame chassis. The 2nd Gen Parklane (1964-1968) was the highest-priced and premium trim model offered, and many Parklane’s were fitted with the option of a “Breezeway” retractable rear window that was first used on the Turnpike Cruiser and the 1958-1960 Lincoln Continental. The retractable rear window was installed in hardtop sedans with a reverse-slant configuration. From 1965, the chassis of full-sized Ford and Mercury cars were redesigned; the Mercury line was given a much more slab-sided appearance due to the popularity of the 1965 Lincoln Continental. The front grille continued to offer twin headlights in a recessed part of the grille.

This car was produced on the 24th April 1966 in Ford’s Lorain, Ohio plant as a Parklane 4-dr hardtop sedan and was fitted with a ‘Breezeway’ retractable rear window. It was powered by a 410cui-4v V8 Ford ‘FE-series’ big block engine which was matched with a Ford C6 3-speed column-shift automatic transmission and paired to a conventional rear diff with a 2.80:1 gearing ratio. The trim/body plate identifies it as painted in Ford’s Dark Blue Metallic and trimmed with Blue vinyl interior and with a front bench seat. The car when built was delivered to the Cleveland, Ohio district sales office and subsequently sold.

This is an original unmolested car in excellent original condition. The car has been repainted some years ago and shows very nicely. The upholstery and interior are original and is in amazing condition. It features a strong running 410ci 330hp V8 engine being fed by an Edelbrock 4-bbl carburetor, and the ‘Cruise-O-Matic’ automatic transmission shifts nicely. The factory fitted power steering and 15″ aluminium wheels with radial tyres, makes this big cruiser very easy to steer and drive.

You do not see many of these, what were very popular in their day, “Breezeway” sedans. Such a unique and fun car to pile your friends or family in and go cruising. Roll the windows down and flip the switch on the dash, and down goes the rear window!!

This is an excellent example of this now rare big street and highway cruiser!
