1970 Ford Ranchero GT Sport Pickup powered by a 5.8L 351cui-4v V8 Ford Cleveland small block engine matched to a FMX 3-spd column-shift automatic transmission and driven through a conventional rear differential w/ 3.25:1 gearing.
This Ranchero GT is a 5th Gen (1970-1971) model. In 1970 Ford had a complete restyle for the Ranchero, which started with a boxy body style. Both the Torino and Ranchero featured a shallow-pointed grille and front end with smooth, somewhat more curvaceous lines influenced by coke bottle styling. Also available was a stylish grille that featured hide-away headlamps, as well as an optional hood with an oversized scoop which was standard on GT’s.
This Ranchero GT was built in Ford’s Atlanta, Georgia plant on the 15th December 1969 as a 2-dr sport pickup and was painted Raven Black and featured Black vinyl interior with a bench seat. It was produced as an M-code 5.8L 351cui-4v V8 Cleveland engined car with a FMX 3-spd column-shift automatic transmission and driven through a conventional rear differential with 3.25:1 gearing, and was first delivered to the Seattle, Washington state DSO for sale.
This 1970 Ford Ranchero GT was only 1 of 84 built with these driveline/paint/trim codes and was initially delivered to K&S Motors of Bingen, Washington state, and was sold to their customer who lived in the drier eastern side of Washington state where it remained with its first owner before being purchased by its current owner in 2022. Power is now from a strong running replacement 351cui-4v Cleveland V8 paired with a FMX three-speed automatic transmission, and has been refinished in Raven Black with multi-color side and tailgate graphics under previous ownership. It also features a replacement Ford 9″ rear differential, aluminium radiator, matte-black bonnet stripes, bonnet scoop, color-keyed racing mirrors, a bed cover, GT and 351 badges, and dual exhaust outlets.
This Ranchero GT, it is believed, has had one repaint in its life over a very solid, straight and original body. It should be noted that the radiator core support has been replaced, and the front fascia area has been repaired at some point in the past. The chrome finish is peeling from the front bumper, the hide-away headlight covers do not stay closed, and the grille surround panel mounting bracket is cracked. There are scuffs, scratches, and dents evident on the cargo bed floor. The aftermarket cruise control does not work, and the car does not have a CB radio antenna.
Overall, this is a rare and well optioned Ranchero GT that presents in very good condition with no rust. It features a very strong running V8 engine, a smooth shifting transmission, power steering that works as it should, and generally runs and drives great.
