Car Description

1965 Ford Falcon ‘Sprint’ 2-Door Hardtop Coupe powered by a 4.7L 289cui V8 Ford Windsor small block engine and driven by a C4 3-speed column-shift automatic transmission.

          Genuine C-code ‘Sprint’
Factory Bucket Seats & Centre Console
          Factory 289 V8 Windsor
          C4 Automatic Transmission
          Factory Power Steering

Much has been written about the Falcon, and more specifically, the Futura and it’s sporting sibling, the Sprint, and how that line spawned the Mustang. Yet few collectors today tend to recognize the Sprint for what it actually is: – a compact muscle car. It offers a relatively light curb weight; a small, yet comfortable, interior, and plenty of V-8 power. The increasing demand for more power, even after the release of the Mustang, meant that the 1965 Sprint received the 289-cu.in. engine as it’s standard power plant.

This ’65 Falcon Sprint was manufactured in Ford’s Lorain, Ohio plant on the 13th March 1964 as a Falcon Sprint 2-dr Hardtop Coupe. The trim/body plate identifies it as painted in Arcadian Blue with Light Blue Sierra & Medium Blue Sierra vinyl interior trim with front bucket seats. It was fitted with a C-code 289cui-2v V8 Windsor engine, C4 3-speed column-shift automatic transmission paired to a conventional rear differential with 2.80:1 gearing and delivered to the Seattle, Washington state DSO, where it was sold by the selling dealer.

This Sprint sat in a garage for many years being used as a laundry bench after the original owner had passed away. The only casualty of that was the paint on the top surfaces were worn from years of laundry drying. The second owner purchased the Sprint and set things right by having it repainted in the factory colour of Arcadian Blue …. only to leave it in his garage for fear of clicking up the miles. The car is now in the possession of its third owner having been imported into Australia in 2022. Since its arrival only 1,170 miles have been added with the odometer now showing 32,878 miles.

As it sits now the paint still shines like it was applied last week. The chrome & bright trim are exceptionally nice and the panels are straight & line up nicely. If you are looking for a factory panel & rust-free car you would be hard pressed to find a finer example!!

To look into the interior is like peering into a time machine. The upholstery & trim are in great condition, still supple with good support. The only signs of age are on the plastic trim that has faded over time.

Under the hood the 289 V8 is still quite stock and wearing its original black & gold outfit. The engine still fires up easily and runs nicely. It hasn’t seen much street duty but the systems work nicely and as they should. The C4 transmission also shifts nicely. The original exhaust was replaced with a dual system that sounds great. Since arriving here all the oils & fluids have been replaced – engine oil, diff oil, transmission fluid & coolant; the radiator has been reconditioned and flushed, and the thermostat replaced. New brakes shoes were fitted (as they were removed for asbestos testing) to the original drum brakes, and as they work surprisingly well it was decided to keep it original and not replace with disc brakes.

The extremely rare ’65 Sprint hubcaps are still in the trunk. The car currently wears Cragar mags, which are in excellent shape and fit the car well.

This is a very nice original C-code Sprint and definately rare here in Oz. Like the Mustang’s these are very easy cars for the restorers and tinkerers to play with, as there are a plethora of parts and aftermarket accessories available.

The car is currently situated in Brisbane and has full Queensland road registration to May 2025. The Qld number plates “65SPR” are also available with the sale.
