1964 Ford Falcon ‘Sprint’ 2-Door Hardtop Coupe powered by a 4.7L 5-bolt 289cui-4v V8 Ford Windsor ‘Cobra’ small block engine and driven by a 4-speed floor-shift manual transmission.
Much has been written about the Falcon, and more specifically, the Futura and it’s sporting sibling, the Sprint, and how that line spawned the Mustang. Yet few collectors today tend to recognize the Sprint for what it actually is:- a compact muscle car. It offers a relatively light curb weight; a small, yet comfortable, interior, and plenty of V-8 power.
This car was produced on the 16th October 1964 in Ford’s San Jose, Northern California plant as a Falcon Sprint 2-dr hardtop coupe and was fitted with an ‘F-Code’ 260cui-2v V8 2-bbl Windsor small block engine. The trim/body plate identifies it as painted in Mint Green with Turquoise vinyl interior trim. It was fitted with a 4-speed transmission paired to a 3.25:1 ratio differential and delivered to the San Jose, Northern California sales district.
This car is an Absolutely Gorgeous example of this very rare Falcon model !!
The car has been a labour of love in restoring it to it’s, shall we say, “Better than New” condition. The restoration was undertaken in 2017 which has seen the original Mint Green exterior replaced with Black Cherry Metallic paint, which looks gorgeous, and the original Turquoise interior has been replaced with Black vinyl and Candy Apple Red paint. All the panels are straight & line up like new, and it features all new chrome & polished trim, which are exceptionally nice. The underside is also in great shape being now rust free, with the drivers side floor pans having been replaced.
The interior, features all the Sprint features now in Black, including front bucket seats and centre console. The headliner is also in great shape, and the dash display, including oil & water temp gauges, still show like new. All upholstery and carpet has been replaced. Bringing this car into the 21st century is a ‘Secret Audio’ AM/FM MPX receiver & Cd controller w/ remote, which is tucked away neatly in the glovebox and runs through a pair of Pioneer 6″ x 9″ rear speakers. You can drive and listen to your favourite playlist all day long.
Under the bonnet you will now find a rebuilt 5-bolt 289cui-4v Cobra engine with a Holley 4-bbl carburetor, Shelby Cobra aluminium intake, and a mild street cam. The drivetrain features a 4-speed T-10 floor-shift manual transmission matched to a Ford 8″ 3.25:1 differential. The car fires right up and drives, stops & handles superbly. This is a mild build with just a little lope to the idle and an easy to live with burble. Also included in the restoration has been a fresh rebuild of all the drum brakes, all hoses and belts were replaced, new windscreen, aluminium radiator, lots of chrome splashed around and Cragar SS alloy wheels running BF Goodrich T/A tyres.
What more can I say – an absolutely beautiful car ready for the Falcon enthusiast who appreciates the rarity of this Sprint model !!
