Car Description

1963 Ford Fairlane 500 2-door Hardtop Coupe powered by a 4.2L 260cui V8 Ford Windsor ‘Challenger’ engine and driven by a ‘Ford-O-Matic’ 2-speed column shift automatic transmission.

The 1963 Fairlane was a 4th-generation version of this ever popular model, and it become a mid-sized sedan & coupe series, placing it between the compact Falcon and the full-sized Galaxie models in the Ford stable.  The Fairlane had a unibody frame, the suspension was a conventional short-long arm independent arrangement in front, and with a Hotchkiss drive in the rear. This year also saw the introduction of the pillarless hardtop coupes, in Fairlane 500 and Sports Coupe trim. Front-end styling for the 1963 models mimicked the big Galaxie models, but the rear end retained the small tailfins and “pieplate” tail lamp styling cues. This is a west coast vehicle being built in Ford’s San Jose plant in Northern California, and residing in California and Oregon states all it’s life.

This 1963 Ford Fairlane 500 2-door hardtop coupe is in excellent condition, with clean and straight lines, and there is no rust to be found anywhere. It is a low mileage car with only 71,092 actual miles. It has a rebuilt 260cui V8 Ford Windsor engine, and approx 4000 miles ago the intake was changed from the standard 2-barrel to a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, also a new stock comp cam was added as well as a new timing chain. The engine runs very smooth and quiet.

The interior was upgraded in 2003 with recovered seats, headliner, carpeting, kick panels, and seat belts. You will find the interior of this car is in very nice condition, with all gauges working and even the AM radio still working great. The exterior of the car is clean and straight, the paint is in excellent condition, there are no chips or cracks in the glass, and the doors hang and shut very nicely. In fact this car has only been driven 3919 miles since May 2006. The original ‘Bill of Sale’ and ‘Owners Manual’ come with the vehicle.

This model saw the end of the ‘tail-finned’ Fairlanes,  and apart from the addition of a 4-barrel carburetor this Fairlane 500 is stock, as it was when it left the factory. It is in very good condition, not concours, but nevertheless show-worthy and runs & drives great.
