1970 Ford Bronco 4WD Sport Pickup powered by a 4.9L 302cui-2v 205hp V8 Ford Windsor small block engine matched to a 3-speed floor-shift manual transmission and driven through a 9″ Ford rear differential and with a Dana 44 front axle.
The 1st Gen (1966-1977) Bronco was originally developed as a compact off-road vehicle (ORV) using its own chassis, and it was intended as a competitor for the Jeep CJ-5, International Scout and Toyota Land Cruiser. Today a compact SUV in terms of size, then the Ford marketing division showed a very early example of promoting a civilian off-roader as a “Sports Utility” (the two-door pickup version). This first-generation Bronco is built upon a chassis developed specifically for the model range, shared with no other Ford or Lincoln-Mercury vehicle. To simplify production, all examples were sold with four-wheel drive; a shift-on the-fly Dana 20 transfer case and locking hubs were standard. The rear axle was a Ford 9-inch axle, with Hotchkiss drive and leaf springs; the front axle was a Dana 30, replaced by a Dana 44 in 1971.
For under $75k, it’s hard to find a strong running 1st Gen Bronco that you won’t put your feet through the floor boards, and at this price, you usually need to do major rust repairs, or rebuild the drivetrain. You won’t need to do either here, just drive it! Great camping, off road or daily driver that you won’t lose in the parking lot being Grabber Lime! If the color really offends you, but the car fits your price point, then just spray bomb the tub in rhino liner in a weekend and wrap the exterior whatever colour you choose.
This is a good solid Bronco that could be driven daily or taken to the trail. It is definately not the most gorgeous “girl at the dance, but she’ll take you home”!!
This ’70 Bronco was built to be enjoyed and is trail proven! It fires up easily and runs excellent. The braking has been upgraded with front discs and it stops nicely; and the power steering is easy and responsive. It’s obviously not cosmetically perfect …. but it has been actively used recreationally and is ready for your next adventure!!!
Where do you find them in this solid condition? Be quick as this will not be available for very long!!
