Car Description

1971 Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado 2-dr Convertible powered by a 8.2L 500cui V8 Cadillac big block engine and driven by a 3-speed column-shift automatic transmission.

For 1971 (9th-gen) the Cadillac Fleetwood Eldorado look was all new, inside and out. Although it had a heavier, more massive look to it, one knew at a glance it was an Eldorado. And for 1971, a new Convertible model was added to the line, making the Eldorado the only personal luxury car in America with a convertible offering. The new design was beautiful, and the convertible was the immediate glamour queen of the road. The mechanicals of the ’71 Eldorado’s are rock solid, with the 500cui engine and Turbo Hydra-Matic transmission having proven themselves many times over the years. Many prefer the looks of the 1971-1972 models, with the rear fender skirts and lack of crash bumpers.

If performance is important to you, then these earlier ’70s models will provide you with more torque and better overall performance. More stringent emissions controls and standards really choked down the big 500 cubic inch V-8 as the seventies progressed.

This is a super solid zero rust car with the frame, rockers, floor pans and trunk all in great shape. It has had a newer convertible top installed a quite few years ago, which is still in excellent condition. The drivers top handle however is broken. The body is straight and rust free with older original white paint which has lots of spots here and there that could use paint touch ups. The doors open and close nicely. It has very clean original interior, which has always been garage kept with the top and windows up. All the air conditioning components are present, however it is not currently operational.

Mechanically the original engine was rebuilt and has less than 10K miles, and it starts easily and runs strong. The transmission shifts smoothly through all of the gears. There is a slight vibration in the exhaust system, likely needs a new pipe bracket. The brakes stop straight and strong. Everything on this vehicle is power…. seat, windows, mirrors, etc. Overall this Eldorado drives like a Cadillac should, easy and smooth.

Our remedy for boredom? Get a 1971 Eldorado Convertible….get in it and drive. You’ll begin to feel better almost immediately, and that’s not something to take lightly. Mix in a few envious looks from those you pass, and you’ll find recovery is upon you.
